A computer technician by trade, Master James Brown is an assistant instructor at the NY Combat Hapkido club. A native New Yorker, James has over twenty years of experience in the martial arts. He started his martial arts training in hapkido at the World Martial Arts Center under Sabumnim David Herbert. He was 38 years old at the time. After 7 years with Sabumnim Herbert, a back injury sidelined his training temporarily. When he resumed training in hapkido, it was with Grandmaster Alfred Medina of the NY Combat Hapkido Club. Under GM Medina, James earned his 6th dan and the rank of senior master after 16 years. During that time, he has also trained in Sanda with Sifu David Ross and Arnis with Guro Julius Melegrito. He’s also a former member of AWSDA, the American Woman Self-Defense Association. Master Brown is committed to teaching realistic self-defense to whomever is willing to learn.
